Dark circles under eyes are a cosmetic problem that may be common and experienced at any age. They may be caused by
- Heredity
- Lack of sleep or over-fatigue
- Lack of iron
- Excessive pigmentation and exposure to sun
- Chronic diseases such as allergic reactions, anemia, heart disease, thyroid disease, kidney disease, liver disease, etc.
- Malnutrition
- Inappropriate cosmetic products
- Smoking
The following measures may help to remove dark circles under eyes
- Getting enough sleep. A sound sleep may help to keep eyes bright and reduce dark circles. They may also repair cell damage to skin.
- Avoiding alcohol and caffeine. Consuming caffeine and alcohol may cause mild dehydration and make dark circles obvious.
- Using skin lighteners or bleaching agents. If dark circles are caused by too much melanin, creams containing retinol, hydroquinone, kojic acid, green tea, vitamin C or soy may help to remove dark circles under eyes.
- Injectable fillers. These may be used if dark circles are caused by broken blood vessels.
- Laser treatments and vitamin K. Laser treatment and skin care products containing vitamin K may also help.
- A shade lighter in concealer. A lighter shade may help to disguise under-eye circles.
